Writer and politician
An avant-garde writer in the 1920s, founding La Gaceta Literaria (The Literary Gazette) in 1927, Giménez Caballero soon turned towards fascist politics, and was one of the founders of the Falange in 1933. He fought on the side of the pro-Franco insurgents in the Civil War, and was instrumental in helping Franco and Serrano Suñer to force a merger between the Falange and the Carlists, creating an umbrella organization which evolved into the National Movement. One of most determined propagandists of the Nationalist camp, he helped to build up the idea of the continuity between Franco and the military leaders of Spain's crusading past.
